College & Career Counseling

College and Career Readiness

The goal is for our students to take advantage of information and opportunities available to them to help in planning for life after high school. Acquiring information about colleges, training programs and careers is made available through field trips, guest speakers, research opportunities, in-classroom lessons and visits from community members and partners.

Students of all high school ages have access to Schoolinks within their Clever App or via the web at app.schoolinks.com to learn more about:

-Their interests and strengths and how existing skills can translate to the workforce.

-Building a resume, create and keep track of future goals.

-Careers, search for local job listings and internships.

-College and training programs nationwide.

-Local and national scholarships

-Calendar of events in the Omaha metro area that support current and future employment and post-high school educational goals.

As part of OPS graduation requirements, all senior students must either complete the FAFSA or have a parent/guardian signed Opt Out form completed by the end of the school year. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), is an application to be eligible for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans. Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of aid to help you pay for college or career school. In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers (scholarships) may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid as well.

Every student who is planning on going to college or a paid training program should complete the FAFSA to help determine how these programs can be paid for; some students might be eligible for funds that do not need to be paid back. The FAFSA form can be located at studentaid.gov. Please contact the counselor if help is needed in completing the form or if you want to opt your student out of this graduation requirement.
